On April hosted the roundtable with international participation «Healthy society: obesity as a problem of the XXI century»

On April 25, 2023, the Russian Medical Academy of Continuous Professional Education of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation in collaboration with the WHO European Office for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases hosted the roundtable with international participation «Healthy society: obesity as a problem of the XXI century».

Overweight and obesity are among the leading causes of death and disability in the European Region, and are a risk factor for many noncommunicable diseases. This topic looms large these days. 

Representatives from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the World Health Organization, the WHO Regional Office for Europe, the CIS Executive Committee as well as leading experts from the Russian Federation and CIS member countries participated in the event.

The round table’s topic and speakers aroused a genuine interest among the experts and led to a dynamic Q&A session and follow-up discussion.
Different aspects of international cooperation in the field of obesity prevention and health promotion, as well as role of breastfeeding in obesity prevention and issues of cooperation with stakeholders on the prevention and control of NCDs drew considerable attention.

The participants of the discussion noted the importance of exchanging experience within the framework of the round table format and welcomed the initiative of RMACPE to hold such meetings.    

Over 600 people took part in the event. Doctors from 8 countries and 69 cities joined the online broadcast (Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia).
